Recent Projects
As a student of the University of Utah, I have taken part in numerous projects relating to various aspects of recreation and leisure. In December 2015, myself and 20 other students hosted an event that aimed to bring awareness to the issues that the Wasatch Mountain Range faces politically, economically, and environmentally. During this event, my job was to create, maintain, and execute a liability and risk management plan. This included having liability waivers signed and filed for all of our sponsors attending the event, and preparing an Emergency Action Plan in case of medical emergencies, weather events, physical threats, or illegal behaviors. Our event was considered a success, attracting hundreds of people and bringing over a dozen sponsors, many of whom asked if we would continue the project every year.
I have also completed a similar project in a Introduction to Negligence Law course, as well as financial statement analyses and budget creations in a capstone level Financial Management in Parks, Recreation, and Tourism course.
In October 2016, myself and 11 other students visited with dozens of different stakeholders in Southern Utah, with the goal of understanding the environmental and socioeconomical issues that they faced. This trip culminated in a development plan created by myself and given to the City Commissioner of Springdale to introduce fresh ideas to help manage the 4 million visitors that the small town of about 500 hosted last year alone.
Most recently, I completed my final internship as the Aquatic Coordinator for the Cottonwood Heights Parks and Recreation Service Area, where I was in charge of hiring, training, scheduling, and evaluating over 110 lifeguards, shift supervisors, and aquatic site supervisors, as well as provide support to the Aquatic Programs Coordinator and her aquatic instructors. I was also tasked with creating a portion of the Aquatics Department 2018 budget, implementation of American Red Cross Lifeguard Certification Courses, and the preparation of the outdoor pool for the winter and a multi-million dollar construction project that will increase the size of the diving tank and build a new diving structure.
These and other minor projects have given me experience in the PRT field for the creation of financial, legal, and environmental policies.
