Education
I will be graduating from the University of Utah with a B.S. in Parks, Recreation, and Tourism with an emphasis in Commercial Recreation Management in December 2017, immediately following the completion of an internship with the Cottonwood Heights Parks and Recreation Service Area.
Professional Accomplishments
I am currently enrolled in the 2017-2018 Utah Recreation and Parks Association Leadership Academy. This year-long leadership program brings together 12 professionals within the Parks, Recreation, and Tourism Field, under the guidance of 7 professionals at the crux of their career, who will have the opportunity to learn about all the facets of the field from well-respected professionals all around the state, in addition to developing personal and professional leadership skills and providing networking opportunities with professionals in every corner of Utah.
Volunteer Service
I have volunteered with the Assistance League of Salt Lake City, helping package donated clothes, sanitary supplies, and food to children in need during Project Schoolbell and other service projects.
Experience
I have worked at the Cottonwood Heights Parks and Recreation Service Area since 2011. I have performed in various roles and positions, including Lifeguard, Water Safety Instructor, Swim Team Coach, Water Polo Team Coach, Aquatic Site Supervisor, Lifeguard Instructor, Administrative Shift Manager, and most recently as the Aquatic Coordinator.
Additionally, I have spent time between September 2014 and April 2015 as a Financial Service Representative and Loan Officer for Cyprus Credit Union.
These positions and the skills gained from them have developed my career, my character, and my goals. I have learned teamwork, customer service, management, and leadership skills, increased the size of my professional network, and continue to implement new skills that I acquire from my University education into my job duties on an every day basis.

Recent Projects
As a student of the University of Utah, I have taken part in numerous projects relating to various aspects of recreation and leisure. In December 2015, myself and 20 other students hosted an event that aimed to bring awareness to the issues that the Wasatch Mountain Range faces politically, economically, and environmentally. During this event, my job was to create, maintain, and execute a liability and risk management plan. This included having liability waivers signed and filed for all of our sponsors attending the event, and preparing an Emergency Action Plan in case of medical emergencies, weather events, physical threats, or illegal behaviors. Our event was considered a success, attracting hundreds of people and bringing over a dozen sponsors, many of whom asked if we would continue the project every year.
I have also completed a similar project in a Introduction to Negligence Law course, as well as financial statement analyses and budget creations in a capstone level Financial Management in Parks, Recreation, and Tourism course.
In October 2016, myself and 11 other students visited with dozens of different stakeholders in Southern Utah, with the goal of understanding the environmental and socioeconomical issues that they faced. This trip culminated in a development plan created by myself and given to the City Commissioner of Springdale to introduce fresh ideas to help manage the 4 million visitors that the small town of about 500 hosted last year alone.
Most recently, I completed my final internship as the Aquatic Coordinator for the Cottonwood Heights Parks and Recreation Service Area, where I was in charge of hiring, training, scheduling, and evaluating over 110 lifeguards, shift supervisors, and aquatic site supervisors, as well as provide support to the Aquatic Programs Coordinator and her aquatic instructors. I was also tasked with creating a portion of the Aquatics Department 2018 budget, implementation of American Red Cross Lifeguard Certification Courses, and the preparation of the outdoor pool for the winter and a multi-million dollar construction project that will increase the size of the diving tank and build a new diving structure.
These and other minor projects have given me experience in the PRT field for the creation of financial, legal, and environmental policies.

Career Goals
Because I am just beginning in my career, my goals are always evolving. What I wanted 2 years ago is not what I desire now, and I know that 2 or 5 or 10 years down the line, I will want something greater. My current goal is a complete jump away from community or commercial recreation; I am applying to be a Naval Aviator for the US Navy, with a long term goal of obtaining a graduate degree in Astronautical Engineering from the Naval Postgraduate School. If this does not work out for me, my goal in Parks and Recreation is to become a Director of Recreation at a city or county level, in order to serve my community.
However, I don't know how my goals will change as I move into new positions, and I never know where I am going to end up.
